Street Child at Carnegie hall
Street Child International
Street Child is a global charity whose mission is to see all children safe, in school and learning. Around 260 million school-aged children worldwide are out of school, and between one-third and one-half of them live in regions of humanitarian crisis, affected by conflict and disaster. The COVID-19 pandemic caused the biggest educational crisis since World War II, and at the peak of the crisis 90% of the world’s students were out of school due to school closures.
Street Child works with local NGOs to ensure lasting impact and sustainability, in more than 20 countries on three continents. Since inception in 2008, it has reached almost 1M children and families with life-sustaining education, child protection, and livelihood support.
Carnegie hall fundraiser
Inspired by my work with Street Child and its mission to provide education for children living in the most difficult of circumstances, I decided to organize a concert and combine my love for music to showcase the important work that Street Child does and to help raise funds for its Mission. The concert at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, brought together young musicians who played classical and contemporary pieces on the piano, classical guitar, violin and viola.
I played pieces by Franz List (Liebestraum S.541 No.3 in A♭ Major), Frédéric Chopin (Fantasie-impromptu), Hans Zimmer (Interstellar Theme) and my own composition (Etude No. 4 - “Rockslide”).
The concert was almost sold out and all in all a great success. I was able to raise close to $14,000 through ticket sales and donations for Street Child.
